Family Weekend 2025

SAVE THE DATE: FAMILY WEEKEND WILL BE SEPTEMBER 26-28, 2025. 

Reservations for local accommodations for Family Weekend 2025 will open Thursday, December 5 between 11AM-12PM EST. Scroll down to learn more about where to stay during Family Weekend. 

Registration for Family Weekend events will open at 1 p.m. ET on August 27, 2025. Please check back throughout the year for information and program updates.

Food Drive for Food4Flyers Food Pantry:

  • Drop off your donations for the Food4Flyers Food Pantry at the Family Weekend Information Hub: Friday, September 20th from 3:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. in the RecPlex Lobby or on Saturday, September 21st from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Kennedy Union in the first floor lobby.

Family Weekend Information Hub and T-shirt Sales

  • Stop by the Family Weekend Information Hub to pick up a Family Weekend schedule, drop off your Food4Flyers pantry donations, and to buy/pick up your Family Weekend t-shirt. Please visit the RecPlex lobby Friday from 3:30-7 pm or Kennedy Union 1st floor lobby Saturday 10am - 2pm.

RecPlex Access (our campus recreation center): Friday 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 10 p.m.; and Sunday 9 a.m. - Midnight

  • Families can enjoy FREE access to the RecPlex all weekend long. Play some basketball, climb the rock wall, or go swimming in the pool! Children under 16 years old are not permitted on the weight floor. UD student must accompany the family during the visit.
  • Class Policy: All equipment needed will be provided. Must be at least 16 years of age. A parent or guardian must be present and sign the Participation Waiver for children under 18; a UD student (age 18+) can serve as a parent/guardian. Please refer to the UDCR minor policy. Closed-toe athletic shoes and appropriate athletic attire are required (no exposed buttons, rivets, zippers, etc.). HIIT Group Fitness class is offered through registration. Space is limited.
  • RecBike Rentals: Take a ride around the neighborhood or hit the trails with our RecBikes! Must be a member (students are members) to rent the bikes, however a member can rent more than one at a time. All participants must sign a waiver at the time of check-out. Free to rent and must be back before sundown. All bikes come with a helmet and bike lock upon request.

Dayton Art Institute  

  • Founded in 1919, the Dayton Art Institute is one of the region’s premier fine arts museums. The museum’s collection spans 5,000 years of art history and numbers more than 27,000 objects. Students should present their student ID at the entrance to obtain FREE admission for themselves and up to four guests. The museum is open Friday-Saturday: 11:00 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sunday: 12:00 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Flu Shot Clinic (Student Health Center, Gosiger Hall): 8:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m.

  • Walgreens will be coming to the Student Health Center to administer Free* flu vaccines. *Please bring your insurance card. Students and their family members are encouraged to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the community from influenza. COVID vaccines will be available as well.

$$ Great Escape Game - Escape Rooms (in Beavercreek): various times, 3 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.

  • Each Escape Game is a real‑life escape room adventure for a group of 8 (or less). You’ll solve puzzles, crack codes, find hidden items, and more in order to escape the room in under one hour! Location: Great Escape Game Beavercreek (2332 Grange Hall Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45431). Includes arrival 15 minutes early for check in.

Thomas J. Frericks 5K (RecPlex Lobby): 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

  • If you have already registered for the TJF5K, avoid the early morning rush by picking up your race packets between 3:30 and 5:30 in the lobby of the RecPlex. Not yet registered? No problem! You can register on site.

Experiential Learning @UD Fair (RecPlex, lobby): 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

  • Come learn more about all of the opportunities to engage in high-impact experiential learning at UD. Students will be available to share their experience regarding community-engaged learning, work-based learning (including campus employment and co-ops and internships), education abroad, peer leadership and undergraduate research.

Family Weekend Receptions Sponsored by Housing and Residence Life & Black Alumni Weekend (MEC Family Room, Alumni Hall 101): 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

  • The Multi-Ethnic Education and Engagement Center (MEC) & Housing and Residence Life (HRL) cordially invite you to join us for a Family Weekend Reception. We look forward to reconnecting or meeting you for the first time! Everyone is welcome!

$$ Annual Cornhole Tournament (RecPlex, Main Gym): 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

  • UD Campus Recreation presents its annual Family Weekend cornhole tournament. Registered teams of two will play a single elimination tournament. Pre-registration required.
  • This event is sold out.

Pride of Dayton in Concert (Humanities Plaza): 6:30 p.m. - 7:15 p.m.

  • Join the Pride of Dayton Marching Band for "POD in Concert," featuring music from their 2024 Halftime Shows, their performance at London Band Week next summer, and University of Dayton standards. Under the Direction of Kenneth Will. Weather permitting.

First-Gen Ice Cream Social (Kennedy Union, The Hangar) 7:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.

  • Do you identify as a first-generation college student? Or are you interested in learning more about how to become a first-generation ally?

    This event is free but RSVP is encouraged. Learn more about upcoming events, meet other first-gen students and families and get to know members of the First-Gen Success team. Can't wait to meet you!

$$ Natterdoodle Hand Lettering Workshop (Kennedy Union, Torch Lounge): 7:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

  • Join Natterdoodle, a letter artist from Columbus OH, for an intro to hand lettering workshop. The workshop will include step by step instruction on how to create your own hand lettering and a Family Weekend themed project.

Cosmic Bowling in the Hangar (Kennedy Union, The Hangar): 9 p.m. - midnight

  • Open to all UD students and families, enjoy a night of bowling, billiards, and board games under cosmic lights! Walk-ins are welcome, however depending on the usage of the games, there may be a waitlist to play.

$$ Great Escape Game - Escape Rooms (in Beavercreek): various times, 8:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

  • Each Escape Game is a real‑life escape room adventure for a group of 8 (or less). You’ll solve puzzles, crack codes, find hidden items, and more in order to escape the room in under one hour!   • Start your day with a free group fitness class at the RecPlex! Pre-registration required.

  • Campus Recreation presents its pickleball meetup event! Teams will be placed in one of two time blocks and play other UD families in their grouping. Pre-registration required.

Education abroad Information Session (Science Center, Room 119): 10:00 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

  • Come learn about the wide range of education abroad opportunities available to UD students, including short-term winter and summer courses, semester-long programs, integrated learning opportunities, and cross-cultural immersions.

Work Experience During College: An Employer Perspective Co-hosted by Career Services and the Parent Leadership Council (Kennedy Union, East Ballroom): 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.

  • Work experiences during college are pivotal to career decision-making and employment success after college. This workshop will educate families about work experiences during college, the employment process, the availability of cooperative education and internship experiences, and the importance of being open to new experiences and diverse geographic destinations. Leaders from organizations who hire Dayton Flyers will serve on our panel.

Education abroad Information Session - faculty led (Science Center, Room 150): 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

  • If your student already knows, or is seriously considering, a short-term, faculty-led program abroad, come join us for a break out session highlighting the various options available. These offerings are great for those who want to travel with UD professors and students. We will discuss our traditional summer faculty-led programs in which students can earn 4-10 UD credits, as well as winter and spring break options, which may include a semester-long course at UD.

Education abroad Information Session - semester exchange (Science Center, Room 119): 11:00 a.m. - 11:45 a.m.

  • If your student already knows that a semester-long exchange program is of interest, or they are seriously considering a semester abroad, come join us for a break out session where we will go into more details about the various options and considerations that should be made when going abroad.

$$ Thomas J. Frericks 5K (RecPlex): 10:00 a.m.

  • The event will begin in front of the RecPlex with a running course through UD’s campus.
    Registration is required at runsignup.com/Race/OH/Dayton/ThomasJFrericks5k. Registration is $30/person this weekend. Late registrations are not guaranteed a shirt.

Football game: UD vs Ave Maria (Welcome Stadium): noon

  • Come enjoy your Saturday and cheer on your Dayton Flyers Football team as they take on Ave Maria at 12pm over at Welcome Stadium. Don’t forget to wear your white and bring the noise for the White Out at Welcome Stadium! The first 500 fans through the gates will receive a limited-edition white rally towel. 
  • Ages 2 and under are free, ages 3-17 are $5, adults are $10, and UD students are free. Purchase your football tickets here.
  • UD students may present their student ID at the Welcome Stadium entrance or claim a free ticket through http://fevo-enterprise.com/group/UDstudents

$$ Black Alumni Cookout: 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

  • Alumni, students, and families will join together for a cookout on Kennedy Union Central Mall. 
  • Please register here. $25/ ticket and current UD student may join free of charge.

What's the Roesch? (Roesch and Marian Libraries): 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

  • What's the Roesch? Go on a self-guided tour of the University Libraries to learn about unique spaces like Concourse D and the Collab, and explore the Marian Library, an internationally recognized center for scholarship on the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Comedian: Learnmore Jonasi (Kennedy Union, Boll Theatre): 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

  • Get your laugh on with the Campus Activities Board and comedian, Learnmore Jonasi. Learnmore is a Zimbabwean stand-up comedian and actor. Since making his comedy debut in 2012, he has performed with and alongside the biggest names on the African Continent.

$$ Family Fun Hunt hosted by UD Miracle (Humanities Plaza): 4:15 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

  • Join UD miracle for our family fun hunt around campus! Starting in Humanities Plaza, answer clues and race around campus to find landmarks. Fun for the whole family. Pre Register online or make a day of donation to support families at Dayton Children's Hospital. This fundraiser collecting $5 for each participant not to exceed $20 (even if more than 4 family members participate).

$$ Family Game Show: Free Money Game Show (Kennedy Union, Ballroom): 9:00 p.m. - 10:15 p.m.

  • Calling all pop-culture fanatics! Go wild in a “Name That Tune” style trivia game covering music, movies and TV.

    Scoring the most points gets you FREE MONEY! It’s as simple as that! It’s like a modern version of “Name that Tune” but with all of the best of pop culture. The audience will guess the answers right on their very own phones when they know the song, movie theme, TV theme or movie quote that was played. Disney, Broadway, Rap, Rock, Netflix, Hip Hop, Nickelodeon and Movie Franchises are just a few of the categories you'll hear in this game.

    In the FREE MONEY Game Show, everyone plays! There are multiple winners throughout the game and 4 different rounds to the game, so there are many chances to win FREE MONEY!
  • Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door; $25 per person.

Cosmic Bowling in the Hangar (The Hangar, Kennedy Union): 9:00 p.m. - midnight

  • Close out your Family Weekend experience with breakfast as a family. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door; $20 per person. 

Family Weekend Mass (Frericks Center): 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.

  • We celebrate faith together as a Flyer Family. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to participate.

Women's Soccer Game: UD vs Richmond (Baujan Field): 12:00 p.m.

  • Come cheer on our Dayton Flyers Women's Soccer team as they begin Atlantic 10 conference play! The Flyers will take on Richmond at 1pm at Baujan Field. Admission is free!

Please be aware that the Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs does not coordinate space/room blocks at any area facilities, nor do we have any input into their rate structures. Hotels closer to campus tend to fill faster; however, there are plenty of options within a 20-minute radius of campus.
